The Monkey King

The Monkey King is a mischievous spirit who gets himself into trouble by calling himself king in front of the Emperor! Born out of a rock and extremely intelligent and strong, he holds the weight of two mountains for 500 years!
Gold and Orange Playsilks are the perfect fiery hues for dressing up as this mischievous, chaos-inspiring Monkey King!

The Jade Dragon

The Jade Dragon is seen as a symbol of good luck and strength. Jade is known as the "stone of heaven" and brings good fortune and wisdom. There are nine types of dragons in Chinese mythology! So many fantastic fairytales from all different cultures feature dragons - you may want to add a Dragon Playsilk or Playmap to your story time :)

Fa Mulan

Fa Mulan is a folk heroine from the 4th century BCE who went to battle dressed as a man in place of her father. She was a brave soldier and was regarded with high honor when she returned. Fa Mulan is often depicted in light pink and purple colors.

The Moon Princess

The Moon Princess was discovered as a newborn baby in a bamboo forest by an elderly couple. They raised her as their own and she became a great beauty. However, she was actually the Princess of the Moon and was a visitor to the earth for only a short while. It's fun to make believe you are the Princess of the Moon! Our Starry Night Playsilk is dotted with celestial shapes and crescents, perfect for a moon princess or prince.

Sharing folktales is a wonderful way to teach young children about different cultures and traditions. Often times after learning a new story, little ones will want to act it out again and again, and tell the story back to you! Playsilks and other open-ended dress-ups are wonderful tools to have on hand to encourage their imaginative process through storytelling.

What is your child's favorite fairy tale? Let me know in the comments!

Sarah
