Green Halloween

Green Halloween

Green Halloween
"You were once a yellow pumpkin
sitting on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a Jack-o'-lantern,
let your little light shine."

Here at Sarah's Silks we love celebrating festivals! Halloween is a fun one that can be spent doing activities all month that are out in nature and nurturing for young children.

Wonderful ideas for a green, earth-friendly Halloween include pumpkin patch visits, followed by pumpkin carving and baking and eating pumpkin treats. Long walks gathering fall leaves and acorns. Baking bread, making candles, sitting by the fire, and of course, dressing up!

Playsilks are one of the best, most creative tools for making your own costume. We've seen children use them to become ghosts, witches, genies, flying machines, almost anything you can imagine can be created (with a bit of added magic) with a special colored Playsilk.

Adding Face Paint makes even more characters possible - think tiger stripes on cheeks paired with a tiger Playsilk.

Trick-or-treat baskets are another great earth-friendly way to stay away from plastics. Baskets are beautiful and will be used over and over in many ways.

  • This year my son wants to be a dragon. Every year I do his masks and we use Sarah’s silks for his capes. He loves his silks.

  • We plan to be a trio of unicorns! Our well-loved rainbow tutu will definitely be part of the costume.

    Dana on

  • My granddaughter has been obsessed with Cheetahs since she was about 3yrs old. She is going to be a cheetah (again) :D My daycare kiddos tell me that one is going to be a super hero princess and another is going to be a broccoli spewing dragon (today she used our silks to practice and it was adorable).

  • We are SO excited for Halloween this year. My son is going to be “Toothless” from How to train your dragon. I’ve got to get to sewing for certain pieces.

    Amy on

  • We are having a Pirate (again) and a Racecar Driver, plus a dog for my youngest. 😁

    ELIZABETH on

  • My sweet baby girl is going to dress up as a baby tooth, my husband will be a dentist, and I will be a tooth fairy!

    Linnea on

  • Both kiddos have expressed that they would like to be Disney characters): Anna (for my seven year old, who was Elsa last year—we already had a dress passed on to us), and Elsa (for my three year old—we don’t have an Elsa dress her size). I was already wondering how I could guide them to reconsider those choices to better reflect our values, and tried to walk the seven year old through our city’s pop up Halloween store (too scary!), when I clicked through here and saw the Halloween and animal sections! Their eyes both lit up at the photo on the email, and I’m hoping I can nudge them to reconsider! I’d love to have an excuse to buy a quality piece or two to add to our lovely playsilk collection instead of consuming more character costumes!

  • We are still undecided about my daughter’s costume. We are trying to find one that is unique, archetypal, not media-driven, and will make her happy! Mom and Dad like to dress up with her. The Three Bears? The Three Little Pigs? Snow White, Rose Red, and the bear prince? There are so many choices!

    Kayli on

  • My daughter will be a bumblebee! She has been so excited and talks about it all the time. She’s been excited for fall and halloween in general. Today we went on a long long long walk, picked acorns, and kissed jack’o lanterns we saw along the way.

    Wendy on

  • My eldest wants to be Owlette from PJ Masks, but I’m not sure her mind is made up yet! :)

    Ashley on

  • Our son is going to be Spidey and our daughter is going to be Wonder Woman! We are excited to have the costumes for costume play after the holiday!

    Ayden on

  • Thanks to the fun and creativity of sarah’s silks my children will be bats this year and have a earth friendly basket to trick or treat with. My husband and I are going to be vampires.
