Green Halloween

Green Halloween

Green Halloween
"You were once a yellow pumpkin
sitting on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a Jack-o'-lantern,
let your little light shine."

Here at Sarah's Silks we love celebrating festivals! Halloween is a fun one that can be spent doing activities all month that are out in nature and nurturing for young children.

Wonderful ideas for a green, earth-friendly Halloween include pumpkin patch visits, followed by pumpkin carving and baking and eating pumpkin treats. Long walks gathering fall leaves and acorns. Baking bread, making candles, sitting by the fire, and of course, dressing up!

Playsilks are one of the best, most creative tools for making your own costume. We've seen children use them to become ghosts, witches, genies, flying machines, almost anything you can imagine can be created (with a bit of added magic) with a special colored Playsilk.

Adding Face Paint makes even more characters possible - think tiger stripes on cheeks paired with a tiger Playsilk.

Trick-or-treat baskets are another great earth-friendly way to stay away from plastics. Baskets are beautiful and will be used over and over in many ways.

xoxo,
Sarah

  • Both my children will be Ewoks, per my husbands request. We have little bear outfits that we’ll wrap cloth around their ears and give them sticks to carry. They’ll love the sticks.

  • Well… I had a dream that both my 5 and 2 year olds were going to be postmen/women but that was just a dream! My son wants to be a lightbulb and my daughter a fox! I have yet to figure out the lightbulb costume…

  • I’ve been busy seeing our costumes for this Halloween. My daughter is going to be Bluey and I’m going to be a Haunted Mansion maid. My daughter trick or treats with the same cotton bag that I used through my childhood. Thank you Grandmama for saving it!

  • My son wants to be an astronaut. I’m putting him in a white outfit and am going to sew NASA patches on his sweater. He has a backpack that looks like a space shuttle so he’ll wear that. My kids eat a vegan diet so it’s difficult to go trick or treating but my son loves passing out treats at our home. We would live to add Sarah’s Silks pieces to our small costume collection!

  • Our family of 4 are being characters from the book “Dragons Are the Worst” by Alex Willan. We are using elements that we’ve gotten from Sarah’s Silks that we already love (dragon ears and solid silks) and including other homemade elements! So excited for the final product!
