Green Halloween
"You were once a yellow pumpkin
sitting on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a Jack-o'-lantern,
let your little light shine."
Here at Sarah's Silks we love celebrating festivals! Halloween is a fun one that can be spent doing activities all month that are out in nature and nurturing for young children.
Wonderful ideas for a green, earth-friendly Halloween include pumpkin patch visits, followed by pumpkin carving and baking and eating pumpkin treats. Long walks gathering fall leaves and acorns. Baking bread, making candles, sitting by the fire, and of course, dressing up!
Playsilks are one of the best, most creative tools for making your own costume. We've seen children use them to become ghosts, witches, genies, flying machines, almost anything you can imagine can be created (with a bit of added magic) with a special colored Playsilk.
Adding Face Paint makes even more characters possible - think tiger stripes on cheeks paired with a tiger Playsilk.
Trick-or-treat baskets are another great earth-friendly way to stay away from plastics. Baskets are beautiful and will be used over and over in many ways.

This is our daughter’s first Halloween! So she is going to be the “fairest one of all” in her little Snow White dress, complete with her Sarah’s Silks’ trick or treat basket full of red apples.

We love Halloween!! My kids love dressing up all the time, Halloween is so fun for them :) truth be told, I thought of just having them each wear a cardboard sign with photos drawn of all the things they have requested so far 😂 that said, I’m guessing my oldest will decide to be a fire breathing luck dragon (he requests that most often and has a thrifted sparkly green dragon cape that he adores~ he could wear it with his green clover print pajamas and green boots~ I’ll make some golden claws out of cardboard and tape for them), and our youngest will probably be a “goblin” (really a gnome~ He loves gnomes!! I so wish y’all had a red gnome hat!!). I was thinking of buying the wizard hat for him so he could be a “star goblin” and use his star silk and blue silk as a tunic, tie a “belt” silk to secure, over a white long sleeve, pair of brown pants and his rain boots. They each have a couple of silks and love to dress up as “king knights” with them nearly daily so that’s on the table to! In the name of magical creatures my husband and I are considering being a fairy and an elf, though we may both be cats again this year because hey they’re magical too and we’ve already got the ears! :) Happy Fall and Halloween to everyone! And thank you Sarah’s silks for the treasures you’ve made available to us 💖

We are thinking about doing the Addams family this year! But we also thought about doing Ariel/Scuttle/Flounder/Eric. It’ll be our first Halloween as a family of 4 🤗

Currently our 4 year old wants to be a firefighter. So we are going to be a firefighter (4yo son), a fire (6mo old daughter in a tutu/silks) sitting in a burning building (wagon), a fire hydrant (dad) and a Dalmatian (mom).

I have the intention of having the kiddos use classroom silks and dress up clothes to act out an autumn harvest play this fall. Some of the kiddos have chosen gnome hats and vests and others have made butterfly wings from silks!

One is hoping to be a fairy, the other cannot decide between a fairy or a policewoman or witch.
