Green Halloween

Green Halloween

Green Halloween
"You were once a yellow pumpkin
sitting on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a Jack-o'-lantern,
let your little light shine."

Here at Sarah's Silks we love celebrating festivals! Halloween is a fun one that can be spent doing activities all month that are out in nature and nurturing for young children.

Wonderful ideas for a green, earth-friendly Halloween include pumpkin patch visits, followed by pumpkin carving and baking and eating pumpkin treats. Long walks gathering fall leaves and acorns. Baking bread, making candles, sitting by the fire, and of course, dressing up!

Playsilks are one of the best, most creative tools for making your own costume. We've seen children use them to become ghosts, witches, genies, flying machines, almost anything you can imagine can be created (with a bit of added magic) with a special colored Playsilk.

Adding Face Paint makes even more characters possible - think tiger stripes on cheeks paired with a tiger Playsilk.

Trick-or-treat baskets are another great earth-friendly way to stay away from plastics. Baskets are beautiful and will be used over and over in many ways.

xoxo,
Sarah

  • My little boy has mentioned wanting to be a firefighter this year. Not sure how we’ll make that happen, but I’m excited for the challenge!

  • Princesses all day long for all 3 of my girls. Maybe I’ll get to be the goblin or babayaga. Heavy into the fairy tale scene these days in our imagination play✨

  • I think we’re looking at a butterfly and a pioneer this year. :) it’s fun reading what others plan to be.

  • My daughter will be a brave princess with her rainbow silk sword, shield and crown!

  • My daughter, husband, and I will all be pirates! She is almost three and asked to be a pirate and we are thrilled. I’m going to try my hand at making them myself, too! McCalls has a great family pattern that I will use as the base and give it some tweaks and personality.

  • Not sure what my daughter will be this year but every year we do themed family costumes. One year she was batgirl and me and my husband were escaped inmates.

  • My kids love dressing up as ballerinas, knights, and doctors. My daughter is trying to get her brothers to be ballerinas.

  • My kids love Mario kart characters especially toad, princess peach, and yoshi so we might put something together some fun options. They are 2 and 5 and change their minds a lot so we will decide the week of and make it easy 😅 and weather appropriate.

  • Our family will be dressing up as storybook characters!

  • I prepared two costumes this year for my son. One is a chameleon, and the other is a T-Rex made of cardboard (still need to make it).

  • My 5 year old has decided she wants to be a bat! She sits at the top of our stairs and goes “bat bat bat bat!!” We’ll be using Sarah’s bat wings and headband! And my 2.5 year old wants to be a ghost.. I’ve been asking them both for the last month and the answer is always the same!! Thinking of getting two white silks and making something magical for her with them!! She doesn’t like any of the conventional ghost costumes for toddlers we’ve seen so time to get creative!!

  • This year my kids will be a dinosaur, Asha (from Wish), and Toad. I love going to resale shops to find Halloween costumes or use parts from our dress up bin to make cute costumes. We use the same Halloween buckets every year.
